Foods That Fight Aging

Proper diet is very important in slowing down the aging clock. By regularly eating certain foods, you may reduce the signs of aging. Here are the foods you can consider to prevent the signs of aging like wrinkles, dry skin, and age-related diseases.

For Smooth Skin
As we age, the elastic fibers supporting your skin weakens and becomes slacked and wrinkled. While no specific food can prevent facial lines, you can slow it down by eating the right foods. Sweet potato and orange juice are good options since they provide minerals that make the skin younger-looking. You can also opt for foods rich in vitamin A like dark green and deep yellow vegetables, or vitamin C as found in citrus fruits.

Minimize Dryness
When you reach past your 20’s, your skin’s natural moisturizers (sweat and oil glands) shut down, resulting into drier and older looking skin. To prevent this from happening, you have to drink at least eight to ten eight-ounce glasses of water a day. Drinks like coffee, tea, and cola don’t count as healthy choices, as they contain caffeine that may increase water loss from the skin.

Stronger Immune System
A weaker immune system is another symptom of aging. Study shows that infections or diseases linger in older people since their immune system is weakened. To strengthen your defenses, you should eat food rich in vitamin E such as leafy greens, legumes, and whole grain cereals.

To reduce the risk of osteoporosis, the most common disease of aging women, maintaining a high-calcium diet is a must. Drinking milk and eating calcium-rich foods such as broccoli and spinach are good options.  Also, new studies show that boron may slow down bone loss in the critical years of menopause. Good sources of boron include apples, green veggies, legumes, and grape juice.

Making these foods a part of your diet paired with daily exercise, adequate amount of sleep, and positive outlook in life can surely contribute in maintaining healthy, glowing, and younger looking.
